Africa STEM Academy Attends Ghana Beyond The Return Investment Awards

The Africa STEM Academy had the distinct honor of attending the Ghana Beyond The Return Investment Awards, held at the Ghana Investment Promotion Center Headquarters in Accra on Monday, December 2024. This prestigious event highlighted the continued efforts of the Ghana Tourism Authority and the Beyond The Return initiative, designed to strengthen the bond between Ghana and the African Diaspora.

Over 30 academy scholars were in attendance, excited to be part of such a monumental occasion in Ghana's development and tourism sectors. The event celebrated not only the achievements of Ghana's tourism industry but also the contributions of organizations, individuals, and youth in promoting the country's rich heritage and its future.

Earlier this year, the Africa STEM Academy had the pleasure of hosting Annabelle McKenzie, Director for the Ghana Tourism Beyond The Return Campaign, at the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill STEM Center. Ms. McKenzie, a key figure in the Beyond The Return initiative, was impressed with the academy's work and dedicated her support by sponsoring an essay contest on the theme of "How Beyond The Return Influences Ghana’s Development."

The essay contest saw an enthusiastic response from the academy’s students, with over 30 submissions. After careful evaluation, the final 3 essays were chosen, and the winners were awarded cash prizes at the ceremony, which took place in front of their peers and a distinguished audience. The students were recognized for their creativity, insightful perspectives, and dedication to the vision of Beyond The Return.

In his speech at the summit, Maurice Cheetham Director of the Africa STEM Academy praised the collaborative efforts between tourism and education sectors in creating impactful opportunities for the youth of Ghana. He emphasized the significance of programs like Beyond The Return in helping to shape the future of Ghana, focusing on youth empowerment and sustainable development.

The Africa STEM Academy's participation in the event demonstrates the academy's commitment to nurturing the next generation of leaders in Ghana. By creating pathways for students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), the academy is ensuring that young Ghanaians are equipped with the skills necessary to thrive in a global, technology-driven economy.
